The whole concept of non-religious Jewish identity is really something of a rather bizarre thing, and something that I have always felt somewhat uncomfortable about. Whilst under different circumstances it would be benign and a matter of personal choice, I don't think it is totally benign in the current circumstances. A case in point is someone like the comedian David Baddiel who is atheist and non-Zionist, but who makes a huge, huge thing of his Jewish identity, Jewish victimhood, and of alleged instances of antisemitism - without seemingly understanding that "antisemitism" is being used as a smear and intimidation tactic, and that if anything is stoking antisemitism it is Israel and Zionism and the propaganda tool of equating Israel with all Jews in order to label criticism of Israel as "antisemitism." He is quite a striking example, because he is genuinely non-Zionist and indifferent about Israel/Palestine, and even occasionally willing to amplify the voices of Jewish Palestinian rights activists when they are making a point that specifically relates to antisemitism. However, overall I feel that his obsessive focus on "antisemitism" and Jewish victimhood serves the agenda of Zionism even if that is not his intention.

Well said Avigail. Too many of our so called leaders have zero empathy and only pretend to have concerns. As long as they earn well, feed well, dress well, they will go along with the most awful policies and or fence-sitting whilst people are slaughtered. Israel relies on this. Israel expects this. Israel is rarely disappointed by the ‘West’.
