Thank you, Avigail! Maoz Tsur is a song how to "slaughter"... so is the Passover hymn Vehi She Amda - which says "it is not one (enemy) alone that stood up against us to destroy us. But that in each generation there are those standing up against us to destroy us. But the Holy One Blessed Be He saves us from their hand."
Maccabees did not only "slaughter" the Greeks, they also massacred all Jews who were "assimilating" and "mingling", adopting Hellenistic practices, culture and laws. Maccabees killed all of them, for "treason" and raised their villages. This is how the modern Rabbinical, Pharisaic Judaism was established, based on forever separation of Jews from "nations" (Goyim), paranoiac hatred of non-Jews and the idea that the Gentiles will be retaliated and "slaughtered" When Israel Is Mighty.
As knowledgeable as always Lena. Thank you! I read the books of Maccabees and the whole thing is drenched in blood and murder as you say. Mattathias Was an ambitious, and narcissistic bastard, as fanatical as they come, and his sons were in league with him. The corruption of the Priesthood rivals any modern corruption scandal. It is disgusting. Of course the Passover is disgusting as well. I could never quite stomach the killing of all the eldest sons of Egypt in the name of ‘our’ survival. And what about Hamman and his ten sons. Most of these stories are probably exaggerated fiction, but it is the sentiment and the celebration of vengeance, corruption and bloodshed that I could never stomach.
Excellent and informative. It’s high time those who support Isreal apply proper scrutiny to what is really driving their criminality: racism and theft of land. Well said Avigail 👍💚
Here we are, one year later. I discovered you earlier this year so I’m rewinding your Substack publication to find out more about you and how you got here. I feel like I have so much to learn from you. I find your life so incredibly fascinating, your heart so stunningly beautiful, your courage so admirable, and your strength so inspiring. I know I’ve probably said this before, but thank you so much for being here. And thank you for everything you are doing to help this movement. #freepalestine.
