Professor Ilan Pappé has given yet another brilliant interview on the Electronic Intifada yesterday. The best way to learn about Israel’s history and the history of its Zionist settler-colonial project and the removal of the Palestinian people, is from Ilan. The Electronic Intifada is a reliable and high quality source of journalism about Palestine and Israel’s settler-colonialism.
Ilan Pappé has published many books. But if you read one thing about Palestine to help you feel more confident about your knowledge and your position, choose The Ethic Cleansing of Palestine, or Ten Myths About Israel.
The interview itself begins around 15 minutes into the broadcast. Please watch and share widely.
A comment on paid subscriptions: Substack encourages writers to create paid subscriptions. They take a small cut to enable them to provide this otherwise free-to-use platform. A few readers have pledged money for monthly or yearly subscriptions, to which I am grateful. But for now I am holding back on monetising my Substack channel.
Instead, below you will see a ‘buy me a coffee’ button. If you haven’t seen it before, it is a way of offering a small donation to freelance writers, and others who provide similar services that are not paid work. It is entirely voluntary. Payments are processed securely on the ‘Buy Me A Coffee’ site, using Stripe, and I believe people can keep donations anonymous if they wish.
Thank you for reading my work!
You’re right, and they should be impatient. I’m not young anymore and I’m still impatient. My biggest passion is human (and all) potential. When I see people suffer needlessly, because some humans think it is acceptable to inflict harm on others, I can’t stop thinking about all that human potential we’re losing. Humans suffer psychologically when we’re forced into bare survival, not just because it is uncomfortable and terrifying, but also because when we’re fighting for our very existence we use time and resources that we should use for development. I know we can do so much better than we currently do. 🙏
Dr. Pape was superb. I hope he is right that young people will see the injustices and make no excuses (my words). I think they will and it will be a tough road.
